On 5/12/2015, Higashiyama zoo and botanical gardens in Nagoya announced their 2 years old female lion died from thyroid tumor.
The lion was born in the zoo in 2012. It weighed 86.3 kg and was 142cm when it died.
They found a tumor on its right side of the neck back in 2013. They have been following it up to observe with ultrasonography.
They performed an operation to remove the tumor on 5/11/2015 because it grew extremely largely. However it died of acute cardiac insufficiency the next morning.
The cause of the thyroid tumor is not identified and the twin twin (male) also has a tumor. The origin of their milk isn’t announced either.
Another female lion died in the end of last year in this zoo. It was 18 years old but weighed only 60kg when it died. It could not stand up since 2013. The cause of death wasn’t announced.

Une jeune lionne de 2 ans est morte d’une tumeur thyroïdienne à Nagoya : Les jumeaux survivants en ont une aussi
Le 12 mai 2015, le parc zoologique et jardin botanique de Higashiyama à Nagoya a annoncé que leur lionceau femelle de 2 ans est morte d’une tumeur à la thyroïde.
Cette lionne était née au zoo en 2012. Elle pesait 86,3 kg et faisait 142 cm lorsqu’elle est morte.
En 2013, ils avaient trouvé une tumeur au côté droit de son cou. Ils la suivaient par échographie.
Ils l’ont opérée le 11 mai 2015 pour la retirer parce qu’elle avait beaucoup grossi mais la lionne est morte d’une insuffisance cardiaque au matin suivant.
La cause de la tumeur thyroïdienne n’est pas déterminée et les deux lionceaux jumeaux survivants (mâles) en ont aussi. L’origine de leur lait n’est pas précisée non plus.
Dans ce zoo, une autre lionne est morte à la fin de l’an dernier. Elle avait 18 ans et ne pesait que 60 kg à sa mort. Elle ne pouvait plus se tenir debout en 2013. La raison de sa mort n’est pas précisée.
